Fishing is a fun and relaxing hobby. I started fishing when I was in grade school. In April 1981, I caught an 18 inch trout, and was in the FISHING IN JEW JERSEY magazine.

I caught the trout in the evening with a small live minnow; using a float. I was fishing farther out in the lake where the calico bass were, when the trout took the line; probably because on warm days the trout prefer the shady or cooler water areas. I reeled him in and he jumped out of the water, and I saw him. I landed him at the bank of the lake, where I was fishing at.

Many times I have caught the trout limit, using the whole kernel corn with honey, Velveeta cheese, minnows or red wiggler worms. Later on, Berkley Power Baits were being used, that was made with a trout bait formula. When using Power Bait your hands should be clean, because trout can smell odors before the take the bait. Power Bait comes in many different colors and sometimes the trout will only bite on one color. I got a Hook a Winner Program award for catching a hatchery tagged trout in 1999.

I was using Power Bait, with a sliding sinker for bottom fishing. I casted away toward the edge of the deeper water in the lake, and the tagged trout took the bait and I caught him.

Trout are easy to scale and clean, and are a high protein food.
